Biography. Described by Freddie Hubbard as “one of the greatest trombone players in the world,” Steve Davis (b. ) has established himself with his smooth sound and lyrical style. Davis grew up in Binghamton, New York, and studied with Jackie McLean at the Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut.
DR STEVE 'DAKIZ' DAVIS is a professional percussionist and composer and has been active in such fields in the UK and Europe. McLean recommended Davis to Art Blakey, and he joined The Jazz Messengers in 1989. [1] After Blakey's death, Davis joined the Hartt faculty in the early 1990s. [1] Davis played in Chick Corea's Origin, and recorded with them in the late 1990s and early 2000s. [1] Davis has been a member of the sextet One for All since its inception around 1996. [2].
I was born & raised in Hartford, Connecticut, attended local schools, graduated in 1974 from the University of Connecticut. It was with McLean’s guidance and recommendation that Davis landed his first major performance with Art Blakey in NYC.
